Natures finest
“We often forget that we are nature. Nature is not something separate from us. So when we say that we have lost our connection to nature, we’ve lost our connection to ourselves.” — Andy Goldsworthy
As the water glistens and gently finds the rhythm of the wind, other senses kick in as the sound of children jumping off the dock and a cast of the rod with the unspoken anticipation that a good catch will be reeled in. It only takes 20 minutes to be out of the car, everything unloaded and in its proper place before everyone gravitates to the natural pull of the water.
I didn't realize until that night by the campfire why so many of us really truly enjoy going to the lake. We get to connect with so many natural elements in one amazing space.
The earth beneath our feet, feeling so grounded and connected to the grassy terrene below the soles of our ever supportive bones and muscles letting gravity pull us closer to the core of it all. Allowing the lake sand the squish between each toe while treading through the amazing body of hydrating aqua that will always be much bigger then we ever will be.
Letting the water trickle over us cooling our steamy skin. Floating and feeling lighter then ever as the lake holds us and rinses away any worry we had.
As the sun rises higher into the sky, it continues to remind us of its beautiful power and warmth. At the same time, the wind dances through each strand of hair and washes over our faces and moves on to someone else as it continues to dance all around the world.
Watching the fire twist and twirl its way up into the air as the compelling sphere of light slowly sets over the trees and passes the torch to each fire that twinkles at many other cabins around the lake, that is the moment to soak it all in. Mother nature is there and is apart of us. Enjoying this amazing connection with each element without even realizing it. Not even knowing how much power it all has on us. The pulling force to be wrapped up in each one as the day drifts from cooling dew filled mornings, lazily soaking in the afternoon and settling into the evening shadows as the stars take there time popping into view.
This trip to the cabin, the weekend away from the normal routine doesn't only take us out of our element to give us a break mentally. Besides reconnecting with more positive thoughts, hitting the reset button and taking in every ounce of vitamin D possible, it is a grateful opportunity we have maybe not even realized we had surrounding us and doing wondrous things for us inside and out. Earth, air, water, fire. Right there. More accessible to us then some people will ever get to experience. And most of us have never made the connection that we are so lucky to have it all embrace us and be there for us. The warmth, the hydration, the air to breath, and the ground to hold us up.
Create your own opportunity to reconnect with the elements that are apart of us, and reconnect with yourself. Each week, I will post about each element to help you connect with movement, recipes, and reasons why each one is so important.
Until then, always be grateful.
